It’s a bittersweet symphony for India, as recent updates reveal that the Indian paddler Sreeja Akula bowed out of the women’s singles at the WTT Contender Lagos, following a 1-4 loss to Japan’s Honoka Hashimoto in the finals.

In the first three games, Honoka Hashimoto took over by 11-7, 11-3, 11-4. Sreeja rallied in the fourth game, retrieving one 11-9 to remain in the contest. In the fifth, she took a 10-9 advantage, but Honoka came back to tie, then won the match 13-11, completing the contest in 48 minutes.

From the previous match, everyone was expecting that Olympian Sreeja could win in the women’s singles after a hard-fought 3-2 victory over France’s Prithika Pavade in the semifinals, with scores of 11-7, 11-4, 11-13, 6-11, and 11-9 in a match that lasted 39 minutes.

On the other hand, India made it to the victory by winning the men’s doubles title as Gnanasekaran Sathiyan and Akash Pal dominated through a straight-games victory over France’s Leo de Nodrest and Jules Rolland. The Indian pair won in 22 minutes with an 11-9, 11-4, 11-9 scoreline to take home the title.
