Wriddhiman Saha joined the West Bengal cricket team after a short two year stint with Tripura. He originally played for Bengal from 2007-2022, he switched to Tripura after an official accused him that he made excuses to skip Ranji Trophy matches in 2022. The dispute led him to obtain a no-objection certificate (NOC) and he played for Tripura.

“After playing for almost 15 years with the West Bengal cricket team, I played for the Tripura cricket team for two years. Now I have returned to play for the West Bengal cricket team…As a wicket-keeper batsman, I will try my best to help the team win major tournaments, ” Saha told ANI

He shed light on his current focus on the upcoming Ranji Trophy tournaments. He further said that he will assess his fitness and physical health before taking a decision to play in T20 and one-day matches.

Saha was also asked about taking charge of the team as captain after Manoj Tiwary’s recent retirement, he talked about his role as a wicket-keeper batsmen.

“I will try my best to bring forward junior players” Saha added

The president of Cricket Association of Bengal Snehasish Ganguly welcomed Saha’s return and praised his stellar record as he played 40 Tests for India. He last played for India in 2021, scoring 1,353 runs in 40 Tests which includes three centuries and six fifties. He also represented India in five ODIs.

Wriddhiman Saha’s return to Bengal will provide a significant boost to West Bengal’s cricket team as the experience and seniority he would bring to the team would be extremely beneficial.
