World Test Championship: Take A Look At The Qualification Scenario Of Team India

The Indian cricket team will play a 2-Test match series against Bangladesh next week. Both these matches will be very important for the Indian team. Both these matches will decide how the Indian cricket team will reach the final match of the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25. In this report, we tell you how many matches the Indian team needs to win to qualify for the final match of the World Test Championship.

Team India’s Scenario

The Indian cricket team is currently at the top of the World Test Championship points table with a win percentage of 68.52%. India has so far defeated West Indies by 1-0 and England by 4-1. Whereas, the team has played a 1-1 draw against South Africa. Now India has to play 2 Test matches against Bangladesh, 3 against New Zealand and 5 against Australia.

Australia is second in the points table with 62.5%. Whereas, the defending champion New Zealand is third with 50% win percentage. Team India now has to play 10 more Test matches, in which the team can qualify for the final match only by performing well.

How Many Matches Will Be Needed To Win

According to an ICC report, India will have to win at least 7 out of the next 10 Test matches to maintain its winning percentage above 60%. In this, India will play 2 matches against Bangladesh and 3 matches against New Zealand on its home ground. After this, India has to tour Australia, where five Test matches will be played under the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The Indian cricket team has won its last two Test series in Australia. This has also increased India’s confidence.

However, India will have to remain in the top-2 to reach the final. In such a situation, if India wins 5 matches and plays 1 draw, then India will still qualify for the final. On the other hand, if India registers 6 wins, then its winning percentage will become 64.03%, which will almost ensure that the team reaches the final.

What Is The Status Of The Other Teams?

Australia is in second place in the World Test Ranking points table with 7 matches left. Australia will have to win 4 matches or win 3 matches and draw 1 match to reach the final. New Zealand is in third place with 8 matches left. New Zealand will need to win 6 matches or win 5 matches and draw 1 match to reach the final.
