‘Will not tolerate Taliban mentality’: CM Shivraj after ‘Pak Zindabad’ slogans raised in Ujjain; four arrested

A day after ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ slogans were raised in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said he will not tolerate “Taliban mentality”.

Speaking to reporters in Bhopal, the CM said that strong action will be taken and announced that the accused have been arrested.

Anyone who supports Talibani mentality or tries to indulge in anti-national activities will be crushed, he said.

Former Madhya Pradesh Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Ajay Vishnoi said it is “unfortunate” that those who reside in this country raise anti-national slogans.

Only a few such people defame their entire community, he added.

Four people were arrested and over 10 persons were detained for allegedly raising pro-Pakistan slogans during a procession on Thursday evening and a case has been registered at Kharakuwan police station of the district.

The incident took place when a religious procession was being taken out by members of a particular community in Geeta Colony on Thursday evening. When cops stopped the procession saying they were not allowed due to COVID-19, the mob got angry and started raising pro-Pakistan slogans.

After getting information about the incident, the cops rushed to the spot but the miscreants who raised the slogans managed to escape from the spot.

Addressing the media, Satendra Kumar Shukla, Superintendent of Police (SP), Ujjain, said that 10 people were identified based on a video clip.

The SP said that four persons have been arrested while some of the suspects have been detained.

The interrogation is on and the rest of the accused are absconding, he said adding that police teams have been formed to nab the remaining men.

In July, the Uttar Pradesh Police had arrested five persons for allegedly raising pro-Pakistan slogans at a Samajwadi Party (SP) rally in Agra.

The video of the incident showing men shouting ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ slogans went viral on social media.
