Will NATO Be Drawn Into Russia-Ukraine War? Key Developments, Potential Global Impact

Will NATO members be sucked into the ongoing Russia- Ukraine War? After US President Joe Biden allowed Kyiv to use its long-range missile Army Tactical Missile System or ATACMs, France and Britain may also get tempted to allow it to use their missiles like the Snow Storms.

Political analysts believe the US move is to encourage Volodymyr Zelensky to bolster its position in the newly occupied territory of Kursk to bargain it for Russia-occupied Ukrainian areas of Crimea, Luhansk, Donetsk, and Zaporizhzhia.

Will the US move to checkmate Russia or push it to a corner where it can take extreme steps with its back to the wall, fuelling a more dangerous war, that can reach the point of no return?

Ukraine Plans Fresh Salvo In Kursk

The US decision has come at a time when Russia is believed to have planned a fresh attack on Kursk. Analysts believe Moscow has planned to use about 15,000 Korean troops in the fresh salvo at Kursk to dislodge Ukrainian forces from the occupied Russian area.

Russia launched 2,000 drone attacks on Ukraine last month and it is making significant advances toward the Pokrovsk city of Kursk to capture it and cut the supply lines, throwing the Ukrainian troops to the mercy of Russia.

What Will Donald Trump Do?

The latest move is also important because President-elect Donald Trump has long said openly that US aid to Ukraine is a waste of taxpayers’ money. He will take over the reins on January 20, 2025.

Because the lame-duck president may try to use this period to get the approval of the US Congress for as much aid to Ukraine as possible, it is clear that time is running out for Zenelnsky.

According to the Kiel Institute for the World Economy, the US has supplied Ukraine with arms and ammunition worth $55.5 billion from February 2022 when the war began to August 2024.

Could Joe Biden’s Decision Lead To World War 3?

The gravity of the situation can be gauged by the President-elect’s son Donald Trump Junior has accused the Biden administration of stoking tensions that could lead to “World War 3”. Taking to social media platform X, he wrote, “The Military Industrial Complex seems to want to make sure they get World War 3 going before my father has a chance to create peace and save lives.”

The conflict began with the Russian accusation of Ukraine trying to enter the NATO encircling it, the member states of the trans-Atlantic bloc have fuelled the conflict and now the biggest and most important member has come out to bring the war to an end.

Will Donald Trump Pull The Plug?

Ironically, the US may leave Ukraine in the lurch and Zelensky may be forced to sign the ceasefire on a dotted line, much to his chagrin.

The Republicans not only won the US Presidential Election but also got control of the US Congress and increased its presence in the House of Representatives. Consequently, Donald Trump will have greater leverage and smooth functioning.

It is most likely that Donald Trump will pull the plug, other NATO member states may follow him and Ukraine will be let with no option, but to stop the war whatever consequences it has.

Ukraine may be forced to abandon its four regions under Russian control now and also assured not to attempt NATO membership.
