There is no denying that Mirabai Chanu’s historic achievement at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 is an inspiration for all. Fresh from making history by opening India’s medal account at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 on Saturday, star weightlifter Chanu has opened up about her cheat meal in a candid interaction. Chanu, who clinched the historic silver medal at the Tokyo Games, has revealed that she will treat herself with her favourite cheat meal after her spectacular performance in the 49kg category.

On Saturday, Chanu ended India’s 21-year wait for a weightlifting medal by securing the nation’s first-ever silver medal at the grandest stages of them all. Chanu lifted a total of 202kg (87kg+115kg) to secure a podium finish in the women’s 9kg category. Five years after her debut at the Summer Olympics in the 2016 edition, Chanu made the entire nation proud by clinching the silver medal in the weightlifting competition.

Reflecting on her historic achievement, Chanu said that she will have a pizza to celebrate her silver medal triumph at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. “The first thing I will do is have a pizza. I love pizza’s and I haven’t had one in a while!,” Chanu told the Sony Sports network after opening India’s account in the 2020 edition of the Summer Games.

Chanu is the second Indian athlete to win an Olympic medal at the Summer Games. Prior to Chanu’s heroics, Karnam Malleswari had bagged the bronze medal in the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Lifting a total of 202kg, the 26-year-old managed to outclass Aisah Windy Cantika of Indonesia who won the silver medal. Chanu lifted 110kg and 115kg in her first two attempts. While Chanu bagged the silver medal, China’s Hou Zhihui secured the gold medal in the women’s 49kg category. The newly crowned gold medallist also holds the world mark of 96kg in the category.
