Will BJP Rise To Power In Delhi? RSS Holds 50,000 Drawing-Room Meetings Ahead Of Assembly Elections

In tandem with the BJP, the ideological parent of the party which is the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) liaised with the people of Delhi by organising nearly 50,000 ‘drawing room’ meetings across its eight zones in Delhi In the run-up to the February 5 assembly election.

The RSS’s operations in Delhi are split into eight vibhags (zones), covering 30 districts and 173 nagars (small city units). According to an Indian Express report, each vibhag was instructed to organise “drawing room meetings” in localities, offices, institutions, shopping centres, schools, and colleges Before the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced the dates for the Delhi polls.

Drawing Room Meetings By Swayamsevaks, Workers

A senior RSS functionary was quoted in the report saying, “In my vibhag, nearly 2,000 drawing room meetings were held by Sangh swayamsevaks, while nearly 4,550 were organised by workers of other anushangik (frontal) organisations like Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), Sewa Bharti, Vishva Hindu Parishad, Akhil Bhartiya Shaikshik Mahasangh, Hindu Jagran Manch, and other units.”

Target Of 60,000 meetings

The report said that the RSS had a target to hold 60,000 meetings in all, where pracharaks of various frontal organisations headquartered in Delhi were also asked to go ‘active’ in Delhi. Regular meetings were held to take feedbacks on the drawing room meetings. Where the feedbacks with the data were compiled and shared with the state (prant) unit. The last such meeting were held on Monday at every Vibhag.

More than 4 lakh people participated in 50,000 drawing-room meetings held across the city. During these gatherings, the RSS highlighted its ‘panch parivartan’ (five changes) and encouraged attendees to support BJP candidates, emphasizing the move as being in the nation’s best interest.
