Early Career
A 20-year-old boy whose influence in FC Barcelona has been phenomenal. Gavi’s debut for Barcelona was against Athletic Club in 2021 at the age of 17. Since then he hasn’t looked back. His aggression, work rate, physical presence and off the ball positioning in the pitch are exceptional. He is also compared to former Barcelona midfielders Xavi and Andres Iniesta due to his dribbling, visionary passing, close control and quick reflexes.
ACL Injury
Gavi has been out of action since last 10 months as he tore his Anterior Cruciate Ligament & damaged his lateral meniscus while playing for Spain. It took him several months to recover as the injury were quite notorious and tricky. His return seems closer now as he is spotted practicing with the first team yesterday after a long period time.
Hansi Flick’s Arrival
It will be an interesting scenario to watch Gavi play under the new coach Hansi Flick. Flick is known for his ability to groom and develop young talents and in his tenure coaching at FC Bayern Munich helped elevate players like Kimmich, Alphonso Davies, Goretzka to next level. Gavi’s playing style could fit well into Flick’s preferred system.
Moreover Flick is having a dream start for the club in La Lila. He won all 4 out of 4 matches before international break keeping 100% winning rate, topping the league so far. Flick has shown clarity in his direct-play style of attack giving the players more freedom and already uplifted the performance of players like Raphinha, Lewandowski & Martinez who were considered to be in a stagnant stage last season.
If Flick is successful in building the matches around Gavi’s ability and further improving his decision-making & leadership he would probably bring out the best of Gavi. If everything goes well with Gavi’s game time and injury issues he would thrive under Flick. Flick possibly can help Gavi become a world class player under his guidance.
