WI Vs AUS: Mitchell Starc Rewinds 1947 Feat By Claiming Historic 5-Fer – Know Details

With a stunning exhibition of speed and accuracy, Mitchell Starc wrote himself into cricket history by taking the quickest five-wicket haul in the history of Test cricket. In Australia’s series-winning victory over the West Indies at Sabina Park, the experienced left-arm bowler took only 15 deliveries to wreck the Windies’ batting order – a record that remained unbroken in the 147-year history of the game.

Playing in his 100th Test, Starc broke a record that had been in place since 1947, eclipsing the earlier record of 19 balls to achieve a five-wicket haul. That record was shared by Australia’s Ernie Toshack, England’s Stuart Broad, and fellow Australians Scott Boland and Shane Watson. But Starc’s performance was something else raw, ruthless, and historic.

Starc Breaks a 78-Year Record

Ernie Toshack’s long-standing record from a Test against India in 1947 had withstood generations of fast-bowling brilliance. But in less than 15 minutes of fury, Starc consigned it to the past. Resuming on Day 3 with West Indies teetering at 24/4, chasing a target of 204, Starc tore through the batting order with surgical aggression.

His ultimate statistics: 3.5 overs, 1 maiden, 11 runs, 5 wickets and all taken in a mere 15 legitimate deliveries. No Test bowler has ever taken a five-fer from fewer balls.

West Indies Crumble to Historic Low

Starc’s scorching spell set off an historic collapse. The West Indies, who had started the day with a faint glimmer of hope, were packed off for a mere 27 runs – their lowest-ever Test score and the second-lowest in history. In a hypnotic spate, they lost six wickets for a mere three runs in 19 balls, Starc accounting for five of them. Only Alzarri Joseph momentarily slowed the inevitable with a solitary boundary before Starc appropriately brought a close to the innings and sealed Australia’s 176-run win.

Australia Seal 3–0 Series Whitewash

Starc’s historic explosion not only rewrote the record books but also sealed a dominant 3–0 series victory for Australia, highlighting the sheer firepower of their pace attack. His show, timed perfectly on his 100th Test, was a reminder of his consistent brilliance and big-match experience.

A record that had stood for close to eight decades was finally beaten and it required Mitchell Starc, at his brutal best, to redefine Test cricket’s fast-bowling record in the Caribbean heartland.
