The BJP on Sunday hit out at Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi for briefing Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s security during his recent Ferozepur tour.

BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra in a tweet asked as to why Priyanka Gandhi was kept in loop regarding the Prime Minister’s security.

“A sitting Chief Minister briefs Priyanka Vadra on Prime Minister’s security! Why? What constitutional post does Priyanka hold and who’s she to be kept in loop regarding Prime Minister’s security? Channi Saab… be truthful.. you must have said to her ‘work is done… what you asked for, has been done’!” he tweeted.

BJP national general secretary CT Ravi wondered why Channi briefed Gandhi and what constitutional post she holds

“Sonia Gandhi’s Chief Minister did not respond to Prime Minister Modi but briefs some Priyanka Vadra. Just curious to know who Priyanka Vadra is,” he tweeted.

The Punjab CM has ruled any security lapse during Prime Minister Modi’s visit to the state on January 5.

PM Modi had cancelled his scheduled visit to Punjab’s Ferozepur due to a major security breach. The PM was scheduled to visit Ferozepur to lay foundation stones for several development projects and address the people on the occasion.

He was stuck on a flyover for 15-20 minutes after his convoy was blocked by some protestors, according to the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The ministry has sought a detailed report from the state government for the same and also asked the Punjab government to fix responsibility for this lapse and take strict action.

“The Ministry of Home Affairs has sought a detailed report on today’s security breach in Punjab. Such dereliction of security procedures in the Prime Minister’s visit is totally unacceptable and accountability will be fixed,” Union Home Minister Amit Shah had said.
