When Malaika Arora opened up about her decision to separate from Arbaaz: ‘Everyone suggested me to not do it’

What seemed like a rare family moment, a video of Arbaaz Khan and Malaika Arora had gone viral wherein they were both dropping off their son Arhaan at the airport. Arbaaz and Malaika have been co-parenting their son after their divorce in 2017. The duo, who was married for 18 years, decided to separate in 2016. Their public outing together invited various comments from netizens, many of whom shared how the two were fulfilling their parenting duty.

This brings us back to a time when Malaika had spoken about her separation in 2019 and how it was the “lowest phase” of her life. In the throwback interview with Kareena Kapoor Khan on What Women Want, Malaika had said that everyone did not want her to go ahead with it and it was quite difficult at the beginning.

“Everyone suggested me to don’t do it, ‘no one is going to say that your decision is right, so go for it’. Even the night before I got divorced, my family asked me ‘Are you sure about your decision?’ But I think people who care for you will be worried about you. The decision was never easy to make and at the end of the day, someone has to be blamed. We both decided to take this step as it would be better for us and the people around us,” she had said.

The actress-model felt elated how her son, aged 19, pointed out that she was happier after it. “I would want a happy environment for my child and with time he has been more accepting. Not only this but one day he even said, ‘Mom, it’s good to see you happy and smiling,'” she had said.

Malaika is now in a relationship with actor Arjun Kapoor for almost four years, while Arbaaz is dating model Giorgia Andriani.

While Malaika continues to encourage her fans to live a healthy lifestyle, Arbaaz keeps himself busy with several projects including a chat show, Quick Heal Pinch.
