‘When He Comes Out Here…’: Brett Lee Weighs In On Virat Kohli’s Form Ahead Of Perth Test

There has been a lot of hullabaloo over former India captain Virat Kohli’s batting form ahead of the Perth Test in Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. Fans are wondering how the Indian star would fare on this tour?

In a recent interaction with Fox Cricket, Australia legend Brett Lee weighed in on Kohli’s form and emphasised that he is not worried about it. Lee highlighted Kohli’s experience and exceptional record in Australia. Praising the India star, Lee said, “He’s got an Australian mentality, a never-say-die attitude. He doesn’t mind getting into a scrap. He doesn’t mind having a crack.”

“There has been a lot of conjecture around his form recently, but I’m not worried about that. I know with Kohli, he’s got the experience underneath his belt. He may have only got 90 runs in the three-Test series against the Kiwis, but who cares? When he comes out here, he has a great record in Australia,” added the former fast bowler.

Kohli’s worrisome form
In the recently concluded three-match Test series against New Zealand, Kohli scored only 93 runs at a paltry average of 15.50. The veteran batter had a best score of 70 which means he managed just 23 runs in five innings.
Prior to the Test series against New Zealand, Kohli couldn’t live up to the expectations against Bangladesh as well. In two Test matches, he managed scores of 6, 17, 47 and 29.

No Test century for more than one year
The 36-year-old has failed to hit a Test century since July 2023 when he slammed 121 runs against West Indies. Since then, he has scored only two half-centuries in 15 Test innings. Quite clearly, the star batter has lost steam and is looking a pale shadow of his former self.

Kohli’s record in Border-Gavaskar Trophy
Since being a part of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2011-12, Kohli has played 24 matches and scored 1979 runs at a great average of 48.26 , including eight centuries and five half-centuries. He is the seventh highest run scorer in the history of the bilateral contest.
