Virat Kohli is undoubtedly among the top cricketers of the world and has ruled world cricket for almost a decade. However, the right-handed batter is going through a rough patch in international cricket and hasn’t been able to perform as per the expectations of the fans. While the India national cricket team is all set to take on Australia in the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 Test series, the fans expect Virat to return to his best.
Virat Kohli has always given his best in Australia and likes to take on the fiery opposition. The Aussies have been famous for playing mind games and rattling the opposition, Kohli has taken them on from eye to eye which has also resulted in his success. Virat smashed more than 600 runs on the 2014-15 Australian tour.
Former Australian cricketer Ricky Ponting targetted Virat Kohli’s present international form and stated that the latter has scored only two Test centuries in the past five years. Speaking to ICC Review, “I saw a stat the other day about Virat, it said he’s only scored two (three) Test hundreds in the last five years. That didn’t seem right to me, but if that is right, then that is, I mean, that’s a concern. There wouldn’t be anyone else probably even playing international cricket as a top-order batsman that’s only scored two Test match hundreds in five years.”
While there has always been a fiery rivalry between Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir, however, both of them have shown a different brotherly bond ever since Gambhir as the head coach of the India national cricket team. While speaking to the media ahead of the IND vs AUS 2024 Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, the Indian team head coach slammed Ricky Ponting’s opinion regarding Virat Kohli’s Test form.
Gautam Gambhir said, “What does Ponting have to do with Indian cricket? I think he should think about Australian cricket and more importantly have got no concerns whatsoever for Virat and Rohit. I think they are incredibly tough men. They’ve achieved a lot for Indian cricket and they will continue to achieve a lot in the future as well.”
Virat Kohli has reflected on his determination to play Test cricket and the latter has a knack for scoring runs. At the same time, he hasn’t been at his best in the present just like before he is expected to return soon.
