Three people have been arrested for allegedly raping an MBBS student from Odisha on the premises of a private medical college in Durgapur. A case has been registered against the accused under different sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for gangrape and criminal liability. Meanwhile, efforts are underway to nab the two other accused who are absconding.

The identities of all the arrested accused are yet to be made public. “We have arrested three persons in connection with the case. They are being questioned. This is a very sensitive case and we will give out further details later,” an official told news agency PTI.

A second-year student of a private medical college in Durgapur, West Bengal, was allegedly gangraped late Friday evening. The victim, originally from Odisha’s Jaleswar, was reportedly taken out of her hostel by a male classmate on the pretext of getting food.

The incident occurred at a location far from her hostel, raising concerns about inadequate security. The victim was subsequently admitted to a hospital in Durgapur, where she remains in critical condition.

Several individuals are currently being questioned, including staff of the medical college and the male classmate who accompanied the victim. Earlier today, the Police and the investigation team reached the crime spot in Durgapur, where the MBBS student was allegedly gangraped yesterday.

The West Bengal Doctors’ Front (WBDF) has called for swift justice and urged the CJI to order a judicial inquiry. Meanwhile, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Manjhi has urged Mamata Banerjee to take exemplary action against the accused as per the law.
