We call upon Pakistan to comply with ICJ judgement in Kulbhushan Jadhav case: MEA

India has called upon Pakistan to comply with the judgment of International Court of Justice (ICJ) in Kulbhushan Jadhav’s case, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said in a media briefing on Thursday.

Speaking over the case and the Pakistan bill providing for right of appeal to Jadhav, Bagchi said, “We call upon Pakistan to take appropriate steps to address the shortcoming in the Bill (ICJ (Review and Re-consideration) Bill, 2020 passed by Pakistan National Assembly) and to comply with the judgements of the ICJ in letter and spirit.”

On the India-Pakistan cross-border terrorism, he reiterated New Delhi’s stance that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India and any kind of cross-border terrorism is unacceptable. Both sides (India and Pakistan) have cleared all pending assignment visas yesterday, he said.

On the issue of Afghanistan, Bagchi said, it was discussed during EAM S Jaishankar’s visit to Qatar. “US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad was in Doha during EAM’s visit and called on the EAM to brief him on recent developments regarding Afghanistan,” he said.

On the extradition of fugitive businessman Mehul Choksi, the MEA spokesperson said legal proceedings are underway. “The Government of India is actively engaged with the Dominican govt to seek the early deportation of Mehul Choksi to face justice in our country.”

Asked the latest on the subject of vaccine passport, Bagchi said India would favour discussion with a greater focus on vaccine equity. He said a large percentage of the population in developing countries has not been vaccinated yet. “I don’t have any information about India issuing any vaccine passport,” he said.

Over speculations of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s trip to the United States later this year, Bagchi said that any such information would be intimated at an appropriate time
