Team India elected to bat first and the Proteas’ bowling attack failed to make an impact following which India declared at the score of 601/5. Even though Rohit Sharma lost an early wicket but Mayank Agarwal and Cheteshwar Pujara formed a soild-partnership of 138 runs which had already put India in driver seat.

The Indian captain with Ajinkya Rahane further consolidated with 178, when Rahane was out to 59. Kohli then combined with Ravindra Jadeja to compile 225 runs for the fifth wicket, though Jadeja’s dismissal came just short of a deserved century, when he was dismissed for 91, and India declared their innings while Kohli remained not out at 254.
