Virat Kohli unhappy with umpire Marais Erasmus after his warning to pacer Mohammed Shami

Team India skipper Virat Kohli doesn’t shy away from engaging in a conversation with an umpire or the opposition players when he is unhappy with something during a game. Something similar transpired on the field on Day 2 of the Cape Town Test between India and South Africa when Kohli went up to the umpire Marais Erasmus to clear the issue as soon as the former warned Indian pacer Mohammed Shami for running into the danger area.

Shami, who went wicketless in the first session, ran onto the danger area after which the umpire gave him an official warning. The replays showed that Shami’s foot was adjacent to the red mark of the danger area, which miffed Kohli and he went up to the umpire to ask why the official warning was given to the pacer. Kohli was seen in an animated discussion with the South African umpire as he tried to sort the issue.

However, after several more replays, it was confirmed that Shami had landed his foot after delivering the ball into the danger area on a few occasions before the warning and not on the ball just before he got it.

India started the second day on a sensational note with Jasprit Bumrah cleaning up Aiden Markram in the very first over. Following the early wicket, Keshav Maharaj and Johannesburg’s half-centurion Keegan Petersen kept the Indian bowlers at bay.

Maharaj played a few good shots before the introduction of Umesh Yadav for his new spell worked like magic for the visitors as he sent back the left-arm spinner for 25 runs as the Proteas were reduced to 45/3.

South Africa then put the tape on the wickets tap as they made Indian bowlers toil hard. Rassie van der Dussen continued from where he left off in the second Test while Petersen was solid as ever. The duo stitched a 67-run partnership for the fourth wicket before Umesh picked up his second in the form of van der Dussen.
