The members of the Indian cricket team paid tribute to legendary sprinter Milkha Singh by sporting black armbands on the 2nd day of the World Test Championship final. Milkha had passed away due to COVID-19 complications on Friday night (June 18). A number of Indian cricketers paid tribute to the Indian legend on social media.

They also decided to wear black armbands to remember the Flying Sikh. Milkha, who had tested positive for the infection last month, was 91. His wife, Nirmal Kaur, had also passed away due to COVID-19. “#TeamIndia is wearing black armbands in remembrance of Milkha Singhji, who passed away due to COVID-19,” BCCI wrote on Twitter.

Earlier today, Indian skipper Virat Kohli had paid tribute to Milkha on Twitter and wrote: “A legacy that inspired a whole nation to aim for excellence. To never give up and chase your dreams. Rest in Peace #MilkhaSingh ji. You will never be forgotten.”

Jasprit Bumrah, who is part of the playing XI in the WTC final, had also saluted the former sprinter. “A hero, an inspiration, a legend. His legacy will live on for generations to come. Rest in Peace, Milkha Singh sir,” wrote Bumrah.

Talking of the ongoing WTC final, India are off to a positive start and haven’t lost a wicket in the first 10 overs. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill have kicked off the proceedings for Team India. Kohli decided against making any changes to the playing XI and India are playing with 3 seamers and 2 spin-bowling all-rounders.

On the other hand, New Zealand don’t have a spinner in their line-up. They have 4 frontline pacers and a pace-bowling all-rounder, Colin de Grandhomme. They dropped Matt Henry, who scalped 6 wickets in NZ’s previous tie against England. Henry was Man of the Match in the 2019 World Cup semi-final.
