Virat Kohli Knew About Steve Smith’s Retirement Decision?

India defeated Australia in the Champions Trophy semifinal following which one thing that has come to surface is the interaction between Steve Smith and Virat Kohli. After the match both the batters were seen together and after their tense conversation Virat Kohli hugged him. It is speculated that Steve Smith might have told Virat Kohli about his retirement decision.

Steve Smith a well established and a former skipper of Australia has announced his retirement from the ODI. He was a key player of ODI cricket for the Australian teams batting and bowling regularly. He has played 170 matches, accumulating 5800 runs with a very high average of 43.28, scoring 12 hundreds and 35 half-centuries to his account, his highest score being 164. His strike rate of 86.96 also indicates that he is able to hold innings in check. Apart from his part-time bowling, Smith has also added 28 wickets in 40 innings with the best of 3/16. His skill set as all-rounder makes him an asset for the Australian team.

“It feels like the right time to make way”

“It has been a great ride and I have loved every minute of it,” Smith said in a release today.

“There have been so many amazing times and wonderful memories. Winning two World Cups was a great highlight along with the many fantastic teammates who shared the journey.

Test Cricket Still A Priority Of Steve Smith

“Now is a great opportunity for people to start preparing for the 2027 ODI World Cup so it feels like the right time to make way.

“Test cricket remains a priority and I am really looking forward to the World Test Championship final, the West Indies in the winter and then England at home. I feel I still have a lot to contribute on that stage.”
