Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah return as India announce squad for England ODIs

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Sunday announced India’s squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against England, with Shubman Gill set to captain the side and senior stars Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli included in the 15-member squad.

The ODI series, scheduled to be played in July with Shreyas Iyer has been named vice-captain, while KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan have been picked as the wicketkeeping options.

However, the biggest talking point from the squad announcement is the inclusion of Virat Kohli, who has been named in India’s ODI setup subject to fitness clearance. Kohli will join captain Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma at the top of a star-studded batting unit.

The squad also features all-rounders Axar Patel, Washington Sundar and Nitish Kumar Reddy, while Kuldeep Yadav will lead the spin department. India’s pace attack will be spearheaded by Jasprit Bumrah, with Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Harshit Rana and Gurnoor Brar providing additional firepower.

Bumrah returns to ODI squad

Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah has earned a recall to India’s ODI squad after a lengthy absence from the format. The pace spearhead is set to make his first ODI appearance since the 2023 World Cup final, having last been selected for the Champions Trophy 2025 squad before being ruled out due to a back injury.

Bumrah was subsequently rested for the Afghanistan ODI series and the T20I tours of Ireland and England, with the BCCI carefully managing his workload as part of its long-term plans leading up to the 2027 ODI World Cup.
