Virat Kohli achieves another feat, becomes 5th Indian player to don 100 ODI caps at home

Virat Kohli achieved yet another feat in his illustrious career during the 2nd ODI of the ongoing three-match series against the West Indies. Kohli, who made his ODI debut in 2008, has become the 5th Indian batsman to don 100 ODI caps at home. The former Indian skipper was 2 caps short of the tally before the start of the ongoing ODI series.

He donned his 99th ODI cap in the opening ODI and on Wednesday (February 9), Kohli achieved the milestone. The list of Indian batsmen with the most ODIs at home is topped by Sachin Tendulkar. The Master Blaster played 164 ODIs at home.

He is followed by MS Dhoni, who played 127 ODIs on the Indian soil. He played his final home ODI at Ranchi, against Australia, in 2019. Mohammad Azharuddin played 113 ODIs in India. He is followed by Yuvraj Singh, who played 108 ODIs at home.

Kohli, who is playing his 259th ODI*, has 12311 runs in his 50-over career. The tally includes 43 tons and 64 half-centuries. Kohli also captained India to 65 wins in 95 matches.

Kohli out for 18

Meanwhile, the former skipper struggled in the 2nd ODI and only managed 18 off 30 before being dismissed by Odean Smith. The right-handed batsman looked in touch and hit 3 boundaries. But he ended up giving a catch to wicketkeeper Shai Hope in the 12th over.

Suryakumar Yadav shone with the bat and scored 64 off 83 to rescue the team. He was well-supported by KL Rahul, who was run-out for 49. The duo added 91 runs for the 4h wicket.

Courtesy of Washington Sundar’s 24 and Deepak Hooda’s 29, India finished at 237/9 in 50 overs. A win here will seal the series for India while a defeat will bring West Indies back into the series. The 3rd ODI will also be played in Ahmedabad on Friday (February 11).
