Vipraj Nigam Gives Bold Statement After DC’s Defeat, Says ‘It Is Very Difficult To…’

Even after their third home defeat, Delhi Capitals’ young spin all-rounder Vipraj Nigam is optimistic about the team’s chances. After a close 14-run defeat to Kolkata Knight Riders in their recent match, Nigam pointed out that DC is not only looking for a place in the playoffs they’re looking to finish top-two in the table.

Last Moment Decisions Mess Up The Game

“There are some decisions that we take at the last moment, because of which the game gets messed up sometimes here and there. But we are still in the top four, and we have five more games left, in which we will try to come back and finish in the top two,” Nigam told reporters.

DC Couldn’t Chase A Target Of 205

Chasing a target of 205 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, the Capitals fell short despite several strong individual efforts. Reflecting on the loss, the 20-year-old admitted that a few poor shot selections at key moments proved costly.  With 12 points and in fourth position on the table, DC still has a good chance of qualifying and bettering their position as the league stage comes to a close.

DC’s Game Plan Doesn’t Fall In Place

“Our plan was to target their two main spinners and we did that in the first two overs but there were a few moments where we erred in our shot selection or something like that happened because of which our set players got out.

“Against such a bowling line-up, it is very difficult to come and play a shot immediately. That’s why if the set players kept playing, we would have easily won the match,” Nigam said.

Vipraj Nigam’s Incredible Performance

Nigam, who had remained wicketless for four games, returned to form in style with bowling returns of 2/41 and a 38 off 19 balls. His all-round performance was one of the few positives in DC’s show and reflected the youngster’s promise under pressure.

“IPL is a journey where you always face ups and downs. But the main thing is how strong your mindset is, how the team atmosphere is — the seniors’ role is very important, and they have always backed me.”

“Till last year, I had performed the same way in domestic cricket as well. I had scored 70-75 runs in 2-3 matches, but in between, I flopped in a few innings, because of which my confidence went down, and then you need support or a backup time. So it was a good thing that I got my form as soon as I came to IPL.”
