Vijay Deverakonda’s ‘Kingdom’ Lands In Fresh Controversy

Gowtam Tinnanuri’s Kingdom, already underperforming at the box office, has gotten itself into a bigger crisis over its portrayal of Sri Lankan Tamils. Members of the Naam Thamizhar Katchi, a pro-Tamil party, held protests outside theatres screening Kingdom, demanding a ban on the film’s screening.

Videos of protesters tearing down the film’s posters are going viral on the internet.

In a flash decision, the film’s producers Naga Vamsi and Sai Soujanya are now in consultation with the rest of the team to remove the offensive portion of the film.

A friend of Vijay Devarakonda shares with this writer, “Yeah, they are looking at deleting the offensive bits. But will that help? The film is not doing well anyway. History has shown that tampering with a film after its release never helps.”
