Just a week after Malayalam producer-actor Vijay Babu was accused of rape by a Malayalam actress, another woman alleged harassment. The survivor claimed that Vijay tried to kiss her even though they barely knew each other for 20-30 minutes during a work-related meeting. She said that the incident shocked her and because of that, she stayed away from the film industry.
The woman narrated the offence in a #MeToo Kerala Instagram post and alleged that the actress who had filed a complaint against Vijay Babu earlier was slammed by a section of society and thus, the incident prompted her to speak about the harassment.
“He was drinking alcohol and offered it to me as well. I refused and continued working. Suddenly, he just leaned to kiss me on my lips, without any question, without any consent. Luckily, my reflex action was super quick and I just pulled myself backwards and maintained a distance from him. I looked into his face, and he then asked me: Just one kiss?” she claimed in the social media post.
After a lookout notice was issued by the Kerala police, since Vijay Babu absconded following the registration of the rape case, the actor-producer moved Kerala High Court seeking anticipatory bail. He has reportedly fled the country following the rape charges.
The incident in question took place in April when Vijay allegedly abused and sexually assaulted a woman for over a month. The victim took to a Facebook group named Women Against Sexual Harassment and elaborated on details about the offence.
