Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Monday, said that vaccination is the best hope for humanity in its fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. Speaking at the virtual CoWIN Global Conclave, PM Modi hailed India’s digital approach in its vaccination programme and underlined its importance for tracking the vaccination status of citizens.

“Vaccination is the best hope for humanity to emerge successfully from the pandemic. And right from the beginning, we in India decided to adopt a completely digital approach while planning our vaccination strategy,” PM Modi said.

He further said that technology is integral to humanity’s fight against COVID-19. PM further said that the Indian civilisation considers the whole world as one family and the pandemic has made many people realise the fundamental truth of this philosophy. He said that India’s technology platform for COVID-19 vaccination is being prepared to be made open-source, on the basis of this Indian philosophy.

Reiterating the global approach adopted by India in its fight against the deadly pandemic that gripped the world from 2019, PM said that India has been committed to sharing its experience, expertise, resources with the global community right since the beginning of COVID-19

PM Modi said that India is willing to make CoWIN available for other countries. His assurance came after Dr R S Sharma, the CEO of the National Health Authority (NHA) recently said that about 50 countries, including Canada, Mexico, Nigeria, Panama and Uganda, have shown interest in adopting CoWIN to run their vaccination drives. He had further said that India was willing to share the open-source software for free.
