Uttar Pradesh Election 2022: Owaisi asks Adityanath for ‘proper probe’ into attack on his car, demands justice

A day after shots were fired at the convoy of AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh, the Hyderabad MP urged Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to conduct a “proper probe” and sought justice.

Your government invoked NSA over a cricket match, so give justice in this case too so that the UP public knows that you are independent, Owaisi said.

He also warned that if this radicalisation prevails then it can be converted to terrorism and communalism.

This development comes after the Lok Sabha MP on Friday refused to accept the Z category security cover provided to him by the Centre saying that he does not fear death.

“I don’t fear death. I don’t want Z category security, I reject it; make me an ‘A’ category citizen. I’ll not remain silent. Please do justice…charge them (shooters) with UAPA…appeal government to end hate, radicalization,” Owaisi said in the Lok Sabha.

The Lok Sabha MP also said that he is afraid that Indian politics, which is under the control of majoritarian, may become like that of Israel and demanded from the central government that he should be allowed to carry Glock weapons for his own safety.

Two men have been arrested allegedly for firing at the convoy of Asaduddin Owaisi while he was returning to Delhi after attending election-related events in western Uttar Pradesh on Thursday evening.

During interrogation, the two accused told cops that they were triggered by the “provocative” statements of Owaisi and his party members after which they planned the attack.

The FIR has been lodged at the Pilakhua Police Station under IPC section 307 (attempt to murder) and section 7 of the Criminal Amendment Act, police said.

The Uttar Pradesh assembly election for the 403 assembly seats would be held in seven phases from February 10 to March 7. The counting of votes will take place on March 10.
