UPI To Get Faster! Transaction Status And Reversal Time Cut To Just 10 Seconds- New Changes Coming This June: 5 Key Takeaways

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has announced an important update to the UPI system. Starting June 16, 2025, UPI transactions will get much faster. The time taken to check payment status or reverse a payment will go down from 30 seconds to just 10 seconds. This change will help users send and receive money more quickly and easily.

On April 26, 2025, NPCI released a circular explaining new updates to the UPI system. It said that not just status checks and reversals, but even sending or receiving money will become faster- the time will reduce from 30 seconds to 15 seconds. Also, the time to verify an address will drop from 15 seconds to 10 seconds. These changes aim to make UPI payments quicker and smoother.

Key Highlights

  • UPI transaction time reduced from 30 seconds to 15 seconds
  • API response time halved for all banks and platforms
  • Status checks and refunds to process 75% faster
  • UPI hit 17.89 billion transactions in April 2025, marking a 34% increase from last year
  • Total UPI transaction value in April stood at ₹23.95 lakh crore

As UPI usage continues to grow in India, these updates are designed to meet the increasing demand and ensure a smoother, more satisfying experience for users. NPCI has asked banks and payment providers to upgrade their systems. However, they’ve made it clear that faster speed should not affect how successful transactions are.

This update comes after many people faced problems using UPI earlier in April. There was a technical issue that caused some payments to fail. NPCI talked about it on social media and said, “We are having some technical issues right now, and a few UPI transactions are not going through. We are working on fixing it and will keep you informed. Sorry for the trouble caused.”
