Ahead of upcoming Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday ruled out any possibility of an alliance with Asaduddin Owaisi-led  All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) in the state.

In an exclusive interview with Times Now, the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister said that the Samajwadi Party has almost finalised its alliances. “Only a few smaller parties remain with whom we are in touch. We will not ally with the AIMIM,” Akhilesh added.

While attacking Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath, Akhilesh said those who do not have a family will never understand the pain of losing a loved one. Cites an example from UP’s Banda where an alleged BJP man killed a poor restaurant worker.

He also claimed that his party gave Rs 1 lakh each to families of poor labourers who got killed during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The SP chief also slammed CM Yogi-led BJP government in the state saying that the saffron party has not fulfilled its promises, whether they pertained to the upliftment of the poor, providing safety and security to the common man.

Last month, Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) president Jayant Chaudhary has hinted at forming an alliance with Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party in the state. He said that a final decision will be taken by both parties by end of this month.

UP polls to be held in Feb-March 2022

The elections will be held in Uttar Pradesh in the month of February to March 2022 to elect 403 members of the Legislative Assembly.

In the last assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh, the Bharatiya Janata Party bagged 312 seats out of the 403-seat Uttar Pradesh Assembly while SP won 47 seats, Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) 19 and Congress could manage to win only seven seats.

The rest of the seats were bagged by other candidates.
