UP Assembly elections: 100 BJP MLAs sat on protest against Yogi, claims Akhilesh; says SP has crossed 300 seats

A day after reports claimed that the BJP is likely to deny re-nomination to over one hundred sitting legislators in the forthcoming Assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav said that 100 MLAs sat on a protest in the State Assembly against CM Yogi Adityanath.

Addressing the media today, he said it has been heard that BJP is going to cut tickets of its 150 MLAs.

“We already have 50 MLAs. So the calculation is simple, we’ve crossed 300 seats,” he added.

Cornering the Centre over the economy, he said that it claims to create 5 trillion economy but India is behind Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal in Hunger Index.

“UP govt said will make one trillion economy but India is behind Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal in Hunger Index. Most malnourished children are in UP. These figures show that the BJP government is working in the wrong direction,” the SP chief said.

On caste census, he said that SP wants it to happen.

When the Congress government was at the centre, Mulayam Singh, Lalu Yadav, and prominent leaders from south India demanded to conduct but it didn’t happen, he said.

On Saturday, he said that the BJP government’s tenure was “full of failures” and alleged that because of the “wrong policies” of the ruling party, the state lagged behind with runaway inflation and high unemployment.

Accusing the saffron party making tall claims without doing anything, Akhilesh said that the double engine government of the BJP has harassed every section of society and has not done anything itself but has been appearing in advertisements claiming the works of the Samajwadi Party government as its own.

Speaking about the 2022 assembly elections, he said it would decide the direction of national politics and would also be a testing time for democracy.

The SP chief has made tall claims of getting more than 400 seats several times.
