UEFA Champions League: PSG’s Lionel Messi suffers knee injury, doubtful for Manchester City clash

Paris Saint Germain (PSG) have confirmed that Lionel Messi has suffered an injury that has effectively ruled him out of Wednesday night’s Ligue 1 fixture against Metz. After suffering a blow to his left knee, the Argentine underwent an MRI scan which has shown signs of bone contusion. Further tests will be conducted in 48 hours’ time to find out the exact nature of the injury.

This news comes to a huge blow to Mauricio Pochetinno’s side as this puts a major question mark on Messi’s participation in the UEFA Champions League fixture against English Champions Manchester City scheduled for next Tuesday at the Parc des Princes. After failing to beat Club Brugge on the opening matchday, this is an extremely important game for PSG to get their campaign back on track in what many call as the ‘group of death.’

Having had a rocky start to his career in Paris so far, Messi would hope to return to action in time for the tie against his ex-manager Pep Guardiola. So far, Messi has made three appearances for his new club but is yet to register either a goal or assist. However, he hit the post in each of the last two matches.

Messi found himself at the center of a storm in PSG’s dramatic victory over Lyon over the weekend after being visibly upset at Pochettino after being subbed off for Achraf Hakimi in the 75th minute of the game.

Verratti returns

There was brighter news elsewhere for the club as Marco Verratti returned to training after missing the last couple of weeks of action after picking up an injury on the last international break while playing for Italy.

Meanwhile, Sergio Ramos, who is yet to make his debut for the club is still undergoing individual training and remains out of action as he has still not returned to full training.
