Tumbbad is one of the most remarkable sleeper hits in Indian cinema, evolving into an epic over time. Upon its initial release, audiences walked in expecting a typical horror-thriller vibe, only to be immersed in a world they had never imagined.

The film, starring Sohum Shah, is now being re-released in theatres from September 13, giving both longtime fans and new viewers a chance to experience its unique blend of folklore and horror in cinemas.

Reflecting on Tumbbad’s theatrical re-release, Producer Aanand L Rai shared that Tumbbad, for him, was more than just a film. “For us, it was a journey into uncharted territory. The curiosity and the questions about a possible Tumbbad 2 even today, speaks volumes about its impact. We’re incredibly proud of Tumbbad and look forward to audiences witnessing it again.”

Actor Sohum Shah in an interview to Hindustan Times said that he is “elated” as the 2018 folk horror drama is re-releasing. “Originally, yeh film kamaal nahi kar paayi thi theatres par. Bahut logon ki shikayat thi ki film re-release kab hogi,” he says, adding, “Whenever I used to put any post or story, I only used to get comments to bring back Tumbbad. So, I am glad it is finally happening. I might even surprise my fans by dropping by at the theatres unannounced.”

About the Film

‘Tumbbad’ was perhaps one of the first few horror films that blended Indian folklore beautifully with the horror world. Apart from compelling storytelling and incredible performances, the film’s VFX played a pivotal role, drawing audiences into its haunting world. As the film gears up for it’s re-release, advance booking has already started.

Meanwhile, Aanand L Rai and Colour Yellow Productions are gearing up for their next releases, which include ‘Nakhrewaalii’ and ‘Tere Ishk Mein’.
