Tumbbad Re-release 2024: No Big Releases This Week Will Give Good Business To Tumbbad, Says Trade Expert

The 2018 horror film Tumbbad, starring Sohum Shah in the lead role, has made a grand return to the big screen today. As per data shared by Pinkvilla, an advance booking of 21,000 tickets hints at a business of approximately 1 crore rupees. This number is expected to “grow exponentially”, shares Trade Expert Atul Mohan.

While talking about the film’s performance, Mohan tells us, “Since there are no big films releasing this week, Tumbbad will continue to enjoy this success. It has already got 18-19 shows, which are usually given to big-budget movies that are expected to be blockbusters.”

When it was originally released in 2018, Tumbbad was critically appreciated and was one of the strongest contenders for India’s official entry to Oscars. Despite the critical acclaim and great content, it failed to create an impression on the box office. The OTT boom, however, brought back the much-deserved focus on the film and it found its audience over the years.

Pointing out at the other reason why the film will do exceptionally well this time, Mohan says, “The makers have marketed the film so nicely this time that it was bound to perform good. I have not seen a marketing campaign this big for any other re-release.”

Tumbbad also stars Rudra Soni, Harsh K, Dhundiraj Prabhakar Jogalekar, Piyush Kaushik among others. It’s directed by Anil Bharve and produced by Sohum Shah, Anand L Rai.

Meanwhile, several actors who attended the screening of the film, took to their social media handles to appreciate it. Praising the work of Sohum Shah, Kriti Sanon said that it was the “best horror film” she has seen. “This one blew my mind,” she wrote on her Insta story.

Actor Gajraj Rao also took to his Instagram to share a film’s video to appreciate it.
