Theatre owners have been opposing the release of films on OTT sites in South Indian cinema. Meanwhile, Natural star Nani’s upcoming movie Tuck Jagadish indulged in a controversy over the OTT release.

The Telangana State Film Theatres Association (TSFTA) slammed the makers of Tuck Jagadish and Nani for releasing the film on an OTT platform. However, they later apologised after the Active Telugu Film Producers Guild (ATFPG) slammed them for the statement.

A few days ago, film exhibitors held a controversial press meet and threatened to ban Nani’s films from releasing in theatres as the makers of Tuck Jagadish opted for an OTT release. Producer Sunil Narang pointed out that the film will release on the same day as Love Story is scheduled for theatrical release, on September 10 for Vinayaka Chavithi.

Breaking his silence, ahead of the film release Nani said, “Few people have said they will ban my upcoming films in theatres. I empathise with their situation; they are not wrong in reacting that way. But if any of my upcoming films skip a theatrical release, I will stop making movies. I promise that.”

Even before the makers opted for a digital release, Nani stated had on numerous occasions that theatres will always remain his first preference.

After a long wait, Tuck Jagadish is all set to release on Amazon Prime Video on the occasion of Vinayaka Chaviti, September 10, 2021. Earlier, the Telugu family drama was set to release in theatres on April 16 this year. However, the film release was postponed due to the second wave of novel coronavirus pandemic and now the makers have decided to release it on OTT.

Tuck Jagadish marks director Shiva’s second collaboration with Nani after his directorial debut Ninnu Kori in 2017. Apart from Nani, Ritu Varma and Aishwarya, the flick also features Rao Ramesh, Nassar, Rohini, Daniel Balaji, Devadarshini, Chaitanya and Parvathi Malaa in pivotal roles. Jagapathi Babu essaying the role of Nani’s brother.

The upcoming project is produced by Sahu Garapati and Harish Peddi under the banner of Shine Screens. The music of the movie has been composed by Thaman. The cinematography is handled by Prasad Murella.

On the work front, Nani has also wrapped up shooting for Shyam Singha Roy with Sai Pallavi and Krithi Shetty. The flick is directed by Rahul Sankrityan and written by Janga Satyadev. Venkat Boyanapalli is producing the film under the banner of Niharika Entertainment.
