To ensure safer and convenient long-haul journeys, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is launching a QR code-based system. Soon, travelers can enjoy getting real-time updates with the help of large QR code signs planned to be installed on national highways. Scanning these signs will provide complete information about nearby amenities, including the location of the nearest tea stall, police station, petrol pump, hospital, and restaurant.

This groundbreaking initiative by NHAI will be launched nationwide in October. The QR codes will be placed on signboards at prominent locations along highways. Upon scanning them, passengers will directly receive all information on their mobile phones. The code will also tell the distance to the nearby facilities, including emergency medical centers, service stations, pharmacies, electric vehicle charging points, and more.

The regional offices across the country have been given instructions to start installing the QR codes at visible locations along National highways, such as toll plazas, rest areas, entry and exit points, etc.

Facility To Be Available First In These Routes Of Lucknow

In the Lucknow region of Uttar Pradesh, travelers traveling on the following routes will be the first to access this feature:

  • Sitapur Highway-Intauja Toll Plaza
  • Sultanpur Highway, Barabanki Highway-Haidergarh
  • Hardoi Highway-Ballipur and Sahajanwa
  • Kanpur Highway-Nawabganj
  • Rae Bareli Highway-Dakhina Sheikhpur
  • Faizabad Road-Ahmedpur
  • Bahraich Road-Shahabpur

According to Colonel Sharad Singh, Project Director of NHAI Lucknow, the new system will be fully operational by the end of this month.
