Trade War Escalates! China To Impose 10-15% Tariffs On US Chicken, Corn, And Cotton Starting March 10

China, through its Ministry of Finance, declared that it will impose additional tariffs of 10-15% on certain U.S. imports starting March 10. Major American export commodities, including chicken, wheat, corn, and cotton, will be subject to the new Chinese tariff policy beginning on that date. These latest measures from China escalate the ongoing international trade tensions between China and the United States.

China has modified its import rules to enforce an additional 15% tariff on U.S.-manufactured chicken, wheat, corn, and cotton, while sorghum, soybeans, pork, beef, seafood, fruits, vegetables, and dairy products will face a new 10% tax increase, effective March 10.

The move came on Tuesday as China added 15 U.S. businesses to its list of unreliable entities, potentially restricting their opportunities in China-related trade and investment operations. According to Bloomberg, the Ministry of Commerce intends to extend these restrictions by adding at least ten more defense companies, along with other American firms, to its blacklist. Defense contractors General Dynamics Land Systems and Skydio Inc. were among the 15 companies newly included in China’s export control list.

All About The Trade War

America started a new trade war against China and Canada and Mexico by enacting massive import tariffs during the early hours of Tuesday. The recent measures enabled U.S. tariffs to reach their highest points ever which caused both economic entities and governmental organizations to feel uncertainty.

At 12:01 a.m. the Trump administration began enforcing a combined 25% tariff on Canadian and Mexican import goods together with another 10% tariff hike on Chinese imports above current tariffs.

The measures received their justification from the White House through its designed efforts to reconstruct the United States’ international trade framework. The President stated that if foreign companies invest in American car manufacturing facilities and other facilities they would avoid being subject to the tariffs. Multiple experts warn that the proposed tariff system could undermine global supply chains along with increasing costs that American customers need to pay.
