At a time when the world is battling the deadly COVID-19 pandemic, many people including film and television celebrities are losing their loved ones. Television actor Bhavya Gandhi, who plays the role of Tapu in the popular show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, lost his father Vinod Gandhi to COVID-19. His mother Yashoda Gandhi has now opened up about all that they went through to get his father the right treatment.

Speaking to a news portal, Yashoda said that her husband took utmost precaution even in the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. She recounted how a month back, her husband started to feel unwell and asked her to not stay in the same room. The next morning her husband developed fever and complained of chest pain in the latter half of the day. After a few days of home treatment, the family found out that his infection had doubled up and he had to be hospitalised.

Yashoda told Spotboye that they were able to find him a bed with the help of Bhavya’s manager. But he had to be shifted to another hospital for an ICU bed. Yashoda recounted that they felt helpless as they weren’t able to find an ICU bed at first, but later, managed to get a bed at a small hospital in Goregaon.

Yashoda said that it was Bhavya who was making all the arrangements for his father alone as some more people in the family had contracted the virus. The struggle, however, didn’t end there. The family had difficulties finding injections.

The doctor had asked them to arrange Remdesvir injection and the family “paid cost of 8 injections for 6 injections.”

After that, they asked them to arrange ‘Toxin’ injection. Talking about it, Yashoda has been quoted saying, “I feel so bad to tell you jo injection hamare India mein banti hai vo mujhe poore India mein nahi mili. I had to get it imported from Dubai and that to using source and paying 1 lakh for a 45k injection.”

The injection, however, didn’t work for him. He had to be then shifted to another hospital, which at first wasn’t admitting patients without BMC registration. It was only after she showed him his condition that the hospital provided with an ICU bed. Bhavya’s father was hospitalised here for 15 days before he breathed his last.
