In the second T20I against England at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, Tilak Varma batted like a warrior and remained unbeaten at 72 off 55 deliveries, his knock included four boundaries and five sixes. This took India to an exciting two-wicket victory over England. Such was his performance that it earned him the Player of the Match award, adding another feather to his cap.

A Record-Breaking Streak In T20Is

Tilak’s match-winning knock not only ensured India an important win but this also marked a great personal achievement. He became the first player from any full-member nation to score over 300 runs in T20Is without getting dismissed. His recent run of form includes 107* (56 balls) and 120* (47 balls) against South Africa, along with his 19* and 72* against England. This makes his total 318 runs, thus equating to a new record for most runs made between two dismissals in T20Is, breaking New Zealand’s Mark Chapman previous record of 271 runs.

Breaking Virat Kohli’s Record

In addition to his record-breaking achievement, Tilak Varma also surpassed Virat Kohli’s record for the most runs scored by an Indian in four consecutive T20I innings. Kohli had scored 258 runs during the 2014-2015 season, while Tilak’s total now stands at 318 runs. He now holds the record for the most runs across four consecutive innings, with Kohli, Sanju Samson, Rohit Sharma, and Shikhar Dhawan following closely behind.

India’s Chase And Victory

Tilak’s innings proved to be extremely vital as India needed to chase down a mere 166 runs in 19.2 overs. India was in deep trouble at 78 for 5, but in came Tilak with Washington Sundar (26 off 19 balls). He then calmed down the ship with a vital six-wicket stand of 38 runs with Washington Sundar. Their inning will guide India to a comfortable two-wicket victory.
