Throwback: When Kohli blamed Dhoni for popularising his nickname ‘Chiku’ during interaction with Aamir Khan

Bollywood and cricket go hand-in-hand. Often, cricketers and Bollywood stars meet and share their mutual admiration from time to time, resulting in a visual spectacle for their fans. In 2018, actor-cum-host Aparshakti Khurana had hosted an interaction between Indian captain Virat Kohli and Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan.

Aamir, who was in his Thugs of Hindustan look back then, and Kohli quizzed each other on several aspects from their respective lives. While the veteran actor also supported Team India as they are often subject to severe criticism and relentless trolling by their avid fans, he also asked the 32-year-old if he has a nickname.

Kohli, who is widely known as Chiku, was quick to reply and here’s how the interaction had a special mention of former Indian captain, MS Dhoni:

Aamir: Aapka koi nickname hai?

Kohli: Mr MS Dhoni ke wajahse yeh naam famous ho chuka hai (with the entire crowd chanting his nickname Chiku in unison). Dhoni saheb ne stump-mic pe bol diya toh bas tabse……Ab log mujhe aise Chiku bulate hain jaise padoos mein rehte ho

For the unversed, former keeper-batsman Dhoni had a knack of instructing his successor Kohli, aka Chiku, on the field with regard to the field and bowling changes while the stump-mic did the rest in popularising the name ‘Chiku’. This is how the current Indian skipper’s nickname has now become a household name.

While Aamir is busy with his shooting, of his upcoming film — Laal Singh Chaddha — Kohli & Co. are currently in Southampton and preparing hard for Team India’s next big challenge, i.e. the WTC final versus New Zealand.

The marquee encounter will take place from June 18-22 at the Rose Bowl, Southampton. While the Black Caps are currently involved in the second and final Test versus England in the run-up to the WTC summit clash, Team India players are training hard and were caught in action on Day 1 of their intra-squad tie on Friday (June 11).
