Actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut is currently the talk of the town for her film ‘Emergency’. Known for her bold and outspoken style, she recently opened up about several controversies that have surrounded her throughout her career. In an interview with ‘The New Indian’, she addressed her successes and failures, the humiliations she faced due to her relations with men, and the making of the film Emergency.

What Did Kangana Say?

When asked about which aspects of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s personal life she has woven into the story or depicted. Kangana said that she has not touched upon Indira Gandhi’s personal affairs. She explained her decision not to do so.

Kangana said, “When I was also starting to research there was so much about her, people I met they just spoke so much about her sensational affairs or friendships, I was appalled. I said why a woman is only limited to the men she has encountered in her life, in whatever capacity? For me it was very wrong. I have taken special care of not even going into that direction, and strictly looking at her as a Prime Minister and what she did and what she could not, where she rose and what she messed up as a story.”

Kangana On Being Called A ‘Witch’

She further explained her point by citing example form her life. Kangana said, “Even I have seen even in my career as an actress, most of the time my controversy is what men said about me, somebody filed a case or somebody called me a witch or, somebody said something that took over my credibility as an artist. That’s not fair.”

Kangana talked in length about her saral (simple) background coming from Himachal Pradesh and how it shaped her while living in the city. She added that in the city, if you are spontaneous and open, you are called gawar.

The biographical political thriller Emergency is based on the life of Former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. It focuses on the last few years of his tenure and the big decisions taken by her including that of Emergency and Operation Bluestar. It has been produced and directed by Kangana Ranaur. The film also features Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Ashok Chhabra, Mahima Chaudhry, Milind Soman, Vishak Nair and Satish Kaushik in key roles.
