Terrorists couldn’t enter within 50-100 kms range of Srinagar during my tenure as J&K Governor, now killing poor people: Satya Pal Malik

In a comment which is expected to raise political temperatures, Meghalaya Governor Satya Pal Malik said that during his tenure as Jammu and Kashmir Governor no terrorists could enter within the 50-100 kilometres range of Srinagar but now they are killing poor people.

“During my tenure as Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, no terrorists could enter within the 50-100 kms range of Srinagar. But now, terrorists are killing poor people in Srinagar. This is really saddening,” Malik said.

It may be noted that Malik served as the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir from August 2018 to October 2019. And it was during this period when Article 370 and 35A was abrogated to bifurcate the region into two Union Territories.

Malik also served as the Governor of Goa from November 2019 to August 18, 2020. Malik took oath as the Meghalaya Governor on August 20, 2020.

Malik’s comment comes amid the recent spate of targeted killings of civilians by terrorists especially non-locals.

Meghalaya Governor Satya Pal Malik on Sunday said that if the Centre would provide a Minimum Support Price (MSP) guarantee through a law, they can resolve the farmers’ agitation against the farm laws.

Two labourers from Bihar were shot dead by terrorists in south Kashmir on October 17. Earlier, A street vendor hailing from Bihar and a carpenter from Uttar Pradesh were shot dead by the terrorists on October 16.

So far 11 people have lost their lives in shootings by terrorists this month.

The Meghalaya Governor also said that the agitating farmer would not compromise on less than the MSP guarantee law.

“If the government (Centre) provide MSP guarantee through a law then it can be resolved (farmers’ agitation against the three farm laws). There is only one thing so why are you (Centre) not fulfilling it? They (farmers) will not compromise on less than MSP,” Malik said.
