Tax Audit Extension: High Courts in Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh Grant More Time

October 31, 2025 56 Views0

The due date for tax audit cases has been extended from October 31, 2025, to December 10, 2025. The deadline for submitting the report of audit has also been extended to November 10, 2025. The earlier deadline for the same was October 31, 2025.

The Income Tax Department’s decision came on a day when the Punjab and Haryana High Courts and the Himachal Pradesh High Court had extended the tax audit case deadline to November 30, 2025.

In a social media post on X, the Income Tax Department highlighted:

The tweet further said, “The ‘specified date’ for furnishing the report of audit under the provisions of the Income-tax Act, 1961, for the Previous Year 2024-25 (Assessment Year 2025-26) is further extended to November 10, 2025.”

High Courts Also Extend Deadline for Tax Audit Cases

The Punjab & Haryana High Court and the Himachal Pradesh High Court on Thursday pushed back the Income Tax Return (ITR) filing deadline for tax audit cases from October 31, 2025, to November 30, 2025.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court made this ruling after combining five writ petitions from Punjab and Haryana into a single case. Meanwhile, the Himachal Pradesh High Court reached its decision based on a writ petition filed by Advocate Vishal Mohan.

The orders of both High Courts came just days after the Gujarat High Court, in a similar case, had directed the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) to extend the deadline for tax audit cases to November 30, 2025.

Himachal Pradesh HC Also Extends Deadline for Tax Audit Cases

Acting on a writ petition filed by Advocate Vishal Mohan, the Himachal Pradesh High Court also decided to extend the deadline for audit case returns to November 30, 2025.

Delhi High Court Adjourns Hearing

The Delhi High Court today adjourned the hearing on the case seeking an extension of the tax audit case deadline. Hearing the writ petition filed by CA Sumit Garg, the Delhi HC postponed the matter until October 30, 2025.

In a social media post on Facebook, Sumit Garg informed followers about the court’s proceedings.

Gujarat HC’s Verdict

It was on October 13 that the Gujarat High Court had ordered the CBDT to extend the deadline for filing ITRs for audit cases to November 30, 2025.
