In yet another example of the governor vs chief minister row in non-BJP ruled states,  a full-fledged war between Tamilnadu Chief Minister MK Stalin and Governor RN Ravi has erupted. It has culminated in the chief minister demanding the recall of the governor.

The recent controversy that began with the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister writing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi against  “Hindi language oriented events in non-Hindi speaking states” culminated with him demanding the immediate recall of  RN Ravi.  Stalin became angry after the governor allegedly skipped the phrase “Dravida nal Thirunadu” from the Tamil anthem during an event attended by the Governor

MK Stalin Slams RN Ravi

Taking to social media platform X, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister wrote in a post, “Governor, are you an Aryan? Removing the word Dravidian and chanting Tamil Thai greetings is against the law of Tamil Nadu! A person who does not act according to the law and acts according to his will is not fit to hold that office.”

He said further, “In the guise of celebrating India, the governor is insulting the unity of the country and the people of different races living in this land.”

Stalin: Centre Should Recall Governor

He moved one step further as he wrote in yet another post, “Will the governor who suffers from Dravidian allergy ask them to leave out Dravidian in the national anthem? The Union Government should immediately recall the Governor who is deliberately insulting Tamil Nadu and the sentiments of the people of Tamil Nadu.”

Stalin Writes To PM Modi

Earlier in the day, the Tamil Nadi wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi protesting against the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of Chennai Doordarshan being combined with Hindi Month Celebrations. He suggested that “such language-oriented events in non-Hindi speaking states” should be avoided.

In a hard-hitting letter, Stalin wrote, “As you are aware, the Constitution of India does not accord national language status to any language. Hindi and English are used only for official purposes such as legislation, judiciary, and communication between the Union government and state governments.”

Tamil Nadu CM Opposes Hindi Month Celebrations

He added, “In the circumstances, in a multilingual country like India, according to a special place to Hindi and celebrating Hindi Month in non-Hindi speaking States is seen as an attempt to belittle other languages.”

Talking to news agency ANI, the chief minister said that first Hindi was not a welcome language in Tamil Nadu. He added that when he started meeting students, he was happily surprised that their Hindi was better than his. Suggesting that there is a greater acceptance of Hindi among the people of Tamil Nadu, he said bluntly that Hindi is not a language of imposition of language in Tamil Nadu.
