Leader of opposition in West Bengal Legislative Assembly Suvendu Adhikari called on Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar seeking his urgent intervention over post-poll violence in the state and “outrageous violation of human rights”.

Adhikari also discussed with the Governor implication of BJP workers in false cases all over the state.

Dhankhar will go on a week-long visit to North Bengal starting tomorrow.

Governor trying to malign people of West Bengal: TMC

On Saturday, Trinamool Congress had claimed that the West Bengal Governor has been trying to malign the people of the state on the post-poll violence issue for electing the Mamata Banerjee-led party and sought his removal from the post.

The TMC had targeted Dhankhar for his recent five-day trip to Delhi.

TMC chief whip in the Rajya Sabha, Sukhendu Sekhar Roy, accused the Governor of exaggerating “stray incidents” as post-poll violence and meeting Union Home Minister Amit Shah and other central leaders in Delhi calling it a deep-rooted political conspiracy.

Meanwhile, the West Bengal government today filed an application before the Calcutta High Court seeking recall of its order that directed the chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to constitute a committee to examine all cases of alleged human rights violations during post-poll violence in the state.

The application has been listed for hearing on Monday before a five-judge bench which passed the order two days ago after taking into account the PILs on post-poll violence, reported PTI.

Calcutta HC snubs Mamata govt on post-poll violence in Bengal

On Saturday, the Calcutta High Court criticised the Mamata Banerjee government and observed that the state has not taken any concrete steps to address the complaints related to post-poll violence.

“In a case where the allegation is that life and property of the residents of the State are in danger on account of alleged post-poll violence, the State cannot be allowed to proceed in the manner it likes. The complaints required immediate action… It is the duty of the State to maintain law and order and inspire confidence in the residents of the State,” the High Court observed.

This observation from the high court comes after Dhankhar wrote to Mamata Banerjee alleging that the state government has been inactive and indifferent about post-poll violence in West Bengal.
