Suriya is currently basking in the success of his latest release ‘Retro’ with filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj. He has now begun working on his next movie with director Venky Atluri and the makers shared pictures from the film’s pooja ceremony.
Announcing the project, the makers wrote on Instagram, “The most anticipated #Suriya46 has been officially launched with a grand pooja ceremony! @Suriya_offl x #VenkyAtluri unite to create magic on screen! Thank you #Trivikram garu for gracing and marking the beginning of this journey with the first clap. Shoot begins at the end of May! Catch it in theaters Summer 2026!”
The official release date and the title of Suriya’s new film have not been revealed yet. But the movie is confirmed to hit the theatres in 2026 and will go on floors by the end of May 2025.
On the work front, Suriya was last seen in Retro with Pooja Hegde, Joju George, Jayaram and Karunakaran. It was rumoured that Retro was first offered to Thalapathy Vijay. But director Karthik Subbaraj clarified that the movie was not written for Vijay but for superstar Rajinikanth. In an interview, he revealed, “This story was not written for Thalapathy Vijay sir, as being speculated. I wrote this script keeping in mind Thalaivar. Initially, it was more in the action zone to suit Thalaivar’s image. After narrating it to Suriya sir, it was changed to a love story. Even Suriya sir asked me if I narrated the script to Rajinikanth sir.”
According to OTTplay, Retro will release on Netflix on June 5, 2025. Both makers and the OTT platform are yet to announce the official streaming date of Retro.
