The ODI Series against Sri Lanka turned out to be extremely upsetting for the Men in Blue. Gautam Gambhir took over the baton as the new head coach for Team India and the team will be preparing for an exhausting Test schedule. In the surprising turn of events Gambhir expressed his concern towards many players missing out on domestic cricket and highlighted its importance, following which he is also keen to inculcate key Indian players ahead of the start of the Test season. A new report that surfaced claimed players like Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, as well as the seniors Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to participate in the Duleep Trophy.

According to a report by Indian Express, star Indian players like Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Suryakumar Yadav, Kuldeep Yadav have been asked to participate in the Duleep Trophy. The only one exception is Jasprit Bumrah, the ace pacer for Team India. He has been given a break from cricket as a part of his work load management.

The Board for Cricket in India (BCCI) will be naming the squads for Duleep Trophy, in which Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are likely to feature. Ishan Kishan also has a high probability of getting picked, but veteran stars like Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara are unlikely to make the cut.

The Indian team will be focusing on the next Test series against Bangladesh which will be starting from 19 September. The inclusion of Jasprit Bumrah is still doubtful in the squad as Team India will be playing 10 Test matches in the next 4 months, out of which 5 of them are against Australia.

Mohammed Shami is also expected to find a spot in the team, he has been out of action since the ODI World Cup 2023. The panel led by Ajit Agarkar will be picking four squads- India A, India B, India C and India D. After the old format being out of picture, the matches will be played in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh. The BCCI might keep one round at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

The domestic schedule will be concluding on 24 September and India will be starting their first Test against Bangladesh on 19 September which means the marquee players will have to leave the domestic team mid-way to fulfill their national duties.
