SRH Vs MI: Black Armbands, No Fireworks As BCCI Pays Tribute To Pahalgam Victims

In a solemn tribute to the victims of the recent terror attack targeting tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, players and umpires will wear black armbands during today’s Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Mumbai Indians (MI). The match is set to take place at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

BCCI took the initiative to tribute

A minute’s silence will be observed before the start of the game. Out of respect for the victims and the gravity of the incident, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided there will be no cheerleaders or fireworks during the match. “Players and umpires to wear black armbands in today’s match. There will be one minute’s silence before the start of the match, and there will be no cheerleaders today, also no fireworks,” a BCCI official told ANI.

Where MI and SRH stand in points table?

Mumbai Indians currently sit sixth on the IPL points table, with four wins and four losses. They’ve shown signs of gaining momentum as the season progresses. On the other hand, Sunrisers Hyderabad are struggling, placed ninth with only two wins from their seven matches so far. Despite the standings, SRH assistant coach Simon Helmot remains hopeful about turning things around.

Indian Officials in full action

Meanwhile, in the wake of the attack, the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police have launched a search operation around the Baisaran area in Pahalgam, Anantnag, in pursuit of those responsible. The Delhi Police have also increased surveillance at tourist spots and other sensitive locations.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level meeting with security and intelligence agencies to review the situation. Shah reached Srinagar on Tuesday evening to personally oversee the developments and reiterated that those behind the attack would be brought to justice.

PM Modi returned back amid terror attack

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was on an official visit to Saudi Arabia, cut his trip short and returned to New Delhi. Upon arrival at Palam Airport, he was briefed by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, and other top officials about the situation in Kashmir. The visit to Saudi Arabia was at the invitation of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
