SRH Head Coach Daniel Vettori Not Happy With Pitch Conditions In Hyderabad, Says ‘It Hasn’t Been…’

Sunrisers Hyderabad head coach Daniel Vettori didn’t seen to be happy with the pitch conditions overall in the tournament in Hyderabad after SRH were mathematically eliminated from the IPL 2025 playoffs, after the rain-affected match against Delhi Capitals came out with no result.

Unexpected Hyderabad Conditions Played A Role

Vettori highlighted that the pitch conditions in Hyderabad were not as expected and contrary to last year when scores were high at the venue, this year had more balanced or even bowler-dominated tracks, which he feels made scoring runs difficult.

Vettori Reflects On The Conditions

“I definitely didn’t say after every match I was backing an aggressive approach,” Vettori said. “I said we’re about assessing conditions and this year, the conditions weren’t as we expected. If you look at last year, there were a lot of high-scoring games here.” as mentioned by ESPNCricinfo

“It Has Been Tricky”

“These surfaces in particular have been a little bit different. It has been tricky, it hasn’t been easy for the batters. All we’ve talked about is assessing conditions, trying to read the game and understand what to do in certain situations. I think the guys are innately aggressive, but certainly, this season has been about trying to establish what’s been required on the day.”

Bowlers Exploiting Conditions

“There have been two surfaces that have been 250-plus, and there have been four here that have been probably more conducive for the fast bowlers. Not so much the spinners but new ball has been a little bit sticky, hard to hit, not coming onto the bat. The IPL has some of the best new-ball bowlers in the world and they were able to exploit those conditions.”

In six home games, teams have registered 200+ scores in just four out of 11 innings. This contrasts with last season, which had seven 200-plus scores in a mere 12 innings, indicating a significant change in pitch behavior.

Harsh Exit For SRH As Rain Brings Momentum To A Halt

Winning the match against Delhi Capitals was their last hope to stay in the playoffs race They seemed set to deliver after a relentless bowling spell, limiting Delhi Capitals to 133 for 7. Skipper Pat Cummins was exceptional as he took 3 wickets by giving away just 19 runs. But rain came just after the first innings, washing away SRH’s dreams of a much-needed win.
