A passenger plane crashed on Sunday at a South Korean airport after landing gear malfunction, the emergency office said. The Yonhap news agency earlier stated that at least 28 people were killed as the Jeju Airplane was landing at the Muan International Airport. The death toll has now reportedly risen to 176. About 181 people, including 175 passengers and six flight attendants were reported to be aboard the flight.

Video circulating on social media showed the plane catching fire and crashing at the airport. Thick black smoke was seen coming out of the plane. FlightRadar24 was traveling from Bangkok to Muan, the online flight tracking website said.

The fire was later brought under control, with rescue teams working to evacuate passengers from the aircraft. Amid the ongoing rescue mission, two people have been found alive, the agency reported.

In a separate incident which took plane on December 25, a plane en route from Baku to Grozny crashed at Aktau airport, Kazakhstan after making several circles over the airport, Kazakh media reported. The shocking incident took place after the aircraft authorities reportedly requested an emergency landing.

Over 67 people were reportedly on board, including 62 passengers and 5 crew members, local authorities said. At least 38 people were killed in the mishap, Kazakhstan’s emergency ministry said. The flight was rerouted to Aktau due to heavy fog in Grozny.
