Lok Sabha LoP and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has criticised the detention of Activist Sonam Wangchuk and others from the Singhu border last night. Rahul posted on his X handle and called the detention ‘unacceptable.’

What Did Rahul Gandhi Say?

He wrote, “The detention of Sonam Wangchuk ji and hundreds of Ladakhis peacefully marching for environmental and constitutional rights is unacceptable. Why are elderly citizens being detained at Delhi’s border for standing up for Ladakh’s future?”

He called out Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said, “Modi ji, like with the farmers, this ‘Chakravyuh’ will be broken, and so will your arrogance. You will have to listen to Ladakh’s voice.”

Notably, Activist Sonam Wangchuk and others were detained from the Singhu border last night when they were on their way to hold a march towards Gandhi Samadhi.

Wanghuck had posted a video on his social media platforms informing about his detention.

He wrote, “I AM BEING DETAINED along with 150 padyatris at Delhi Border, by a police force of 100s some say 1,000. Many elderly men & women in their 80s and few dozen Army veterans. Our fate is unknown. We were on a most peaceful march to Bapu’s Samadhi in the largest democracy in the world, the mother of democracy, Hai Ram!”

What is Delhi Chalo Padyatra?

The Delhi Chalo Padyatra led by activist Sonam Wangchuk was scheduled to reach Delhi yesterday. The Padyatra had started from Leh on September 1 and was supposed to end on October 2 at Rajghat. The march has been started to demand a four point agenda which includes statehood, sixth schedule status for the Union Territory, early recruitment along with a Public Service Commission for Ladakh, and Lok Sabha seats for Leh and Kargil districts.

Heavy police force were deployed at Delhi’s border in view of the march reaching to Delhi.

Activist Sonam Wangchuk and others have been kept at Narela Industrial Area Police Station.
