Some sort of understanding reached between Centre and protesting farmers: Amarinder Singh makes big revelation

Former Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh, who recently announced that he is quitting the Congress and will form his own party soon, Monday made a big statement when he said that the Central government and the farmers have reached some sort of understanding over the issue of the three contentious agri laws.

Speaking exclusively to Times Now Editor-in-Chief Rahul Shivshankar, Singh said that the rigidity that was there between the two sides, namely the Union government and the farmers’ unions, is not there anymore and a solution to the farmers’ nearly year-long protest could be reached soon.

Here’s what Singh told Times Now during an exclusive conversation:

“As far as I know, discussions have taken place between the Centre and farmers’ unions. We have tried to assist the Government of India (in the past) so as to reach a solution. There has been a constructive approach from both sides. They have reached some sort of solution.

“The question is, if it is stuck on some minor point, then it should be resolved also. I think everyone wants it to be over; the farmers also want to get back to their land. I (also) know the rigidity that was there earlier, that’s not there now and they have reached some sort of a position, not compromise totally, but some sort of a position.”

It may be recalled that the farmers’ unions have been protesting against the three contentious farm laws at Delhi’s borders since November last year.

The unions have alleged that the laws are anti-farmers, while the Central government has argued that the legislation passed by Parliament last year would benefit the farmers.

The three contentious agri laws are: The Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020; Farmers’ (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020; and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.
